TRAI rules for business calling, in plain English

India regulates commercial calls tightly, the rules are published, and “we did not know” has never been a defence.

What is regulated

TRAI's commercial-communication framework covers who may be sent promotional calls and messages, on what consent, and within what hours. Registration of senders and of message templates sits inside it, and subscribers can register preferences that you must respect.

This post is a plain summary to help you ask the right questions. It is not legal advice, and TRAI's own published rules are the authority.

What that means for a desk in practice

Most of it comes down to four habits, and software should be enforcing all four rather than trusting people to remember.

Where the check has to live

In the dialplan, not the browser. A do-not-call list that only the app consults is bypassed by an API call, a bulk import, or somebody using their own handset.

Ours runs in both places and keeps the blocked attempts, so if you are ever asked what you did, there is an answer.
